Australia’s only national, independent greyhound advocacy group

Coalition for the Protection of Greyhounds (CPG) is run by passionate volunteers right across Australia, working together to end greyhound suffering.

Since 2015, the group has exposed the cruelty and corruption of greyhound racing and lobbied with state governments to change policy, and ultimately, shut down the industry.

Racing for their lives

Australia is one of only six countries in the world with remaining greyhound racing tracks, and while National surveys show that most Australians both oppose greyhound racing, many are still surprised by how deadly the industry really is:

  • 28 greyhounds are injured every day racing in Australia.
  • 3 dogs die every week racing on Australian tracks.
  • 6 times more dogs are bred than the industry needs.

Why does greyhound racing still exist?

The Australian greyhound racing industry continues to operate with massive financial support and minimal regulation from the government, which is due to the revenue made from the gambling industry.

It is estimated that Australians bet $4 billion on greyhound racing each year, mostly done through gambling apps, without ever seeing a dog.
