Two-year-old Shirl’s Rocket was the first dog killed in 2025. She suffered catastrophic leg and spinal injuries. According to the stewards report she “attempted to hurdle the running rail and straddled the rail, making heavy contact with multiple rail posts“. Shirl’s Rocket was killed by the industry vet after the race.
