One of Australia’s premier racetracks, Sydney’s Wentworth Park, continues to maim and injure greyhounds.
Two race meetings on 8 and 9 March 2024 saw 16 greyhounds injured.
Four dogs were seriously injured on the 8 March Friday night event:
- In race 7, greyhound Over Thinking suffered a right hock fracture – a 90-day incapacitation period was issued,
- in race 8, Tarawi Rocky suffered a compound fracture to the right radius and ulna at the first turn and fell – 90 days,
- in race 10, Starline Express suffered a right hock fracture at the turn from the back straight – 90 days,
- in race 6, Canya Love Me suffered a right hind metatarsal fracture after a collision on the first turn – 60 days.
The lives of these dogs will never be the same; they are also in danger of being killed because they will never be able to race again. GRNSW censored three of the race videos but CPG has obtained them (see below).
Also note that one dog suffered a post-race seizure but will be forced to race in a week.
Wentworth Park is supposedly one of Australia’s safest tracks. It has been upgraded under the NSW government’s $30m infrastructure scheme and is using new double-arm safety lures.
As of 9 March 2024, two dogs have been killed and 99 injured (17 seriously) at Wentworth Park in 2024.
