On Wednesday 19 February 2025, the NSW Greyhound of the Year awards night is being held at Wentworth Park. It’s fitting that this celebration of exploitation and gambling is being held where five greyhounds were killed in 2024.
Will these greyhounds along with so many others be acknowledged by the greedy gamblers in the room? Will there be a moment’s silence for the dogs that died agonising deaths?
In 2024 the Brittan report and the Drake Inquiry revealed the rotten and corrupt core at the heart of greyhound racing.
17 dogs died on NSW tracks last year. At least 25 others suffered serious injuries and died away from the tracks. These sacrificed dogs will not be named, honoured, or remembered. They are gone forever.
So here are some of the the dogs that will not feature at tonight’s “gala” awards. The ones that the industry and complicit Labor and LNP politicians want us all to forget. But we never will. This is the cruel reality of racing, not the sham awards.
